YOUR ESSENTIAL HOSPITAL BAG CHECKLIST

As you enter your third trimester, the excitement of meeting your little one is growing every day. Your baby bump is getting bigger, and it’s natural to start feeling a mix of joy and nerves about the big day ahead.

One of the best ways to calm those nerves? Being totally prepared for your hospital stay. Packing your hospital bag early means you won’t be scrambling last minute — you’ll have everything you need right there, ready to go.

At Flybyfly, we’ve put together a simple and stylish hospital bag checklist featuring some of our favourite essentials that will keep you and your baby comfy, happy, and cared for from labour through those first precious days.

WHEN TO PACK YOUR HOSPITAL BAG

Doctors usually recommend having your hospital bag ready by 35 weeks — that way, if baby decides to arrive early, you’re completely prepared.

Labour can be unpredictable, so don’t wait! Packing ahead will give you peace of mind and allow you to focus on welcoming your new little family member.

HOW LONG WILL YOU STAY?

Whether your hospital stay is just a few hours or several days, packing with a little extra in mind can make a big difference:

  • Quick discharge (6 hours):
Pack essentials from the list, plus nipple cream, spare underwear, and comfy slippers.
  • Overnight or 1-3 nights:
Add extra comfy clothes, a couple more nursing bras, and a cardigan or jumper for cooler nights.
  • Extended stays (up to 5 nights or more):
Consider additional clothing, more nappies, and baby essentials — and maybe a few treats to keep spirits high.

WHAT YOU CAN LEAVE AT HOME

Hospitals provide many necessities, so skip packing these:

  • Medications like paracetamol or ibuprofen (they’ll be given to you)
  • Baby swings or bassinets (usually provided)
  • Large or bulky items that won’t fit in the hospital room
